Owner-Director with over 25 yrs of middle easteren dance experience. As the main instructor, choreographer and costume designer since the studio was started in 1998, bellydance has been firmly established in Edmonton with the largest number of professional dancers & student body in Canada!
Since Aldiya took her first belly dance class with Anemone, she hasn't looked back. It has enabled her to combine her love of arts with her degree in Anthropology and her passion for human culture. In September of 2002, she left a career in museum work to teach and perform Middle Eastern Dance full time. She draws on her AFLCA training and her studies in human osteology (as part of the Anthropology program) for her knowledge of human anatomy, and has completed Middle Eastern Dance teacher training programs with both Hadia and Venus. Performances by classic Egyptian stars such as Fifi Abdo, Nagwa Fouad, Sohair Zaki and Tahia Carioca make her melt! She is also strongly inspired and influenced by current dancers such as Hadia, Sahra Saeeda and Helene Ericksen; ladies whom she feels exemplify devotion to the dance in both in their technical expertise and their knowledge of the culture from which it comes. Aldiya has travelled to Egypt and Turkey to experience the culture and dance and hopes to do more traveling in the future. Highlights of her dance life include an impromptu performance with the Istanbul Oriental Ensemble at the Winspear Centre and performing with Vinok Worldance to a standing ovation at the Jubilee Auditorium for Alberta's 2005 Centennial Celebration. She performs regularly at Edmonton's Greek and Lebanese restaurants.
In the cold latter months of 1996, Middle Eastern Dance warmed Lorraine’s/Ameena’s world for the first time. Lorraine has studied with Anemone and Hadia and has taken numerous workshops ranging from Orientale to folkloric to fusion style belly dance. Her involvement, beyond dancing, includes teaching, costume creation, choreography, and promotion of the art form through recitals, and community events. Although not a performer at heart, Lorraine feels that she has been blessed with the chance to share this wonderful gift with others through teaching at ISIS DANCE.
Jodi/Nuwayrah has been dancing with Isis Dance since 2002 when she decided to give herself her own birthday gift of belly dance classes. She spent much of her youth performing musical theatre and later spent several years practicing and teaching Kung Fu and Tai Chi. Her passion, however, found a new home in dance. One class and she was hooked, and has never looked back. Although her discipline is largely Raqs Sharki, she has a strong focus on Tribal Fusion style and American Tribal Style. When not teaching in the studio or working her 9-5 job, Jodi/Nuwayrah can be found performing at a variety of functions with Edmonton’s most diverse Middle Eastern dance troupe, Raq-A-Belly dance!
Six years ago while travelling in Europe, Tania started taking belly dancing in the Czech Republic with Zambra,. Returning to Canada she discovered ISIS dance studio & started taking classes in 2003. With a strong basis in Egyptian & Turkish styles Tania has also focused her training in Tribal Fusion style. Tribal Fusion evolved out of the American Tribal style, with dance moves incorporating hip-hop, east Indian & break dance. Tania has taken workshops with some of the best bellies in the business, Rachel Brice (Trib. Fusion), Ariellah from Oakland , Cal. ( Trib. Fusion), Carolena Nericco of Fat Chance Belly Dance ( Amer. Tribal), Kamie Liddle of Belly Dance Super Stars, Sarah Johansson Locke of Gypsy Caravan, Petite Jamila & Sonia of Belly Dance Super Stars, and Nath Keo ( Egyptian) and Sabura ( Egyptian). Tania is also a founding member of the troupe Raq-a- Belly dance.
Andrea began her belly dance adventure
in 2004 at Isis Dance Studio when she randomly decided to give a class a try.
Since that first fateful class Andrea has fallen in love with the culture,
music, and dance of the Middle East. Her passion for the dance has prompted
her to study with Nath Keo, Sabura, and most recently Hadia, with whom she
completed level one and two teacher training. In August, Andrea performed
as an opening act for Nath Keo’s “Tribute to Nadia Gamal”
show in Victoria. Andrea has also had the pleasure of dancing at local cultural
events, birthdays, bridal parties and weddings.
